Draft Maia Growth Partners Responsible Lobbying Policy
Responsible Lobbying Policy
Responsible regulatory guidance plays a key role in addressing social and environmental problems associated with how companies conduct business. We include policy advocacy as part of our business strategy at Maia Growth Partners. This page documents our approach to responsible lobbying and advocacy.
Lobbying Policy Statement
First, we base Maia Growth Partners’ policy advocacy efforts on information vetted from reliable and publicly available sources that are science- and fact-based.
Two primary drivers inform our lobbying strategy at Maia Growth Partners:
Our organizational mission to support local independent food producers,
Requirements outlined by B Corp certification standards
External Appointments
Maia Growth Partners team members may sit on executive boards or advisory committees at other organisations. Occasionally, Maia Growth Partners will partner with these organisations to lend our voice to campaigns they work on.
This could include sitting on panels, meeting with legislators, signing and sharing petitions, and so on.
Financial & In-Kind Contributions
Maia Growth Partners does not make financial political contributions due to our small size and limited resources. Donations and in-kind contributions are limited to internal product development and philanthropic initiatives, typically in support of our Funders Programme, see also our Charitable Giving Policy.
Anti-Corruption & Bribery
Our approach to anti-corruption and bribery includes the following points:
We call out corruption when we see it and take requisite action as needed.
We will never offer or take bribes on our own behalf or as a representative of another organization or legislator.
In tandem with our Purchasing Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct we partner with values-aligned organizations that have made the same or similar commitments.
We will always abide by our company Code of Ethics which includes statements on trust, transparency, and accountability.
Lobbying Partners
Maia Growth Partners has no official lobbying partners. However, we do work with advocacy groups and nonprofit intermediaries to advance legislation, standards, and other regulatory guidance.
These include but are not limited to:
B Lab and its partner organisations
Better Business Act
SME Climate Hub
Regional Food Organisations such as Food Drink Devon
While our work with Food Drink Devon on Gather, the South West Food & Drink summit does not directly include advocacy, informing laws and policies for more sustainable and responsible food systems is a natural extension of these initiatives.
Governance & Risk Management
Maia Growth Partners employs the following governance, control, and risk management practices as part of this policy.
Governance
Advocacy efforts at Maia Growth Partners are overseen by the Directors. However, with a small team, we are able to request and receive feedback quickly from our entire team to support this work. This enables us to enforce the policy with broader perspectives.
Operational Practices
Here’s how Maia Growth Partners’ Responsible Lobbying Policy is embedded within our operations:
Our policy is posted in a publicly accessible location on the company website for anyone to read (this page).
We review opportunities to engage in advocacy on a case-by-case basis based on input from our team, requests from partners, and so on. We document and track these efforts via regular management meetings.
Specific lobbying activities include:
Signing and sharing petitions for causes we believe in
Reviewing or providing feedback on proposed regulatory guidance that affects our operations, our mission, or the B Corp movement overall
Meeting individual lawmakers to advocate for a general or specific piece of legislation
Presenting the case for a piece of legislation to lawmaking bodies
If necessary, participating in peaceful public protest
External stakeholders may provide input or express concerns via the process described below.

This research informs customer service and communications strategies as well as training and capacity building efforts on behalf of our team, customers, and other stakeholders..
Here’s how the company identifies, manages, and monitors risks of non-compliance:
Potential risk issues are evaluated at regular informed by ongoing conversations with clients and the points above.
We share relevant announcements as they are released via internal communications channels and discuss potential avenues to address the emerging issues.
Our team reviews new or updated regulatory guidance to interpret how changing legislation might impact our operations on at least a quarterly basis at in-person team meetings.
Policies and procedures are implemented to maintain good governance and put controls in place to address potential risks.
